Our next major project is a theme framework

We are taking ColorLabs’ line of themes one step further. Our next major project will be a theme framework and it is called Backbone.

This project has been on our mind for well almost a year and finally we have started the development process using the design provided by Firman Firdaus (also designed BloggingNews, Modernizm, and SimpleReader). Theme framework was heavily booming in 2010 and it still hasn’t lost its charm throughout 2011. And we believe it will also has a bright future and frameworks will take a more leading role in the development and implementation of websites and blogs

A thing about a theme framework is its ultra clean and simple design. Another thing about a theme framework is the vast array of customization possibilities, layout and features. Backbone will be developed with the new and veteran WordPress users in mind and we will pack this framework with vast array of customization possibilities, layout, features and first rate SEO optimization for ease of use and expandability.

We want Backbone to be a valuable asset to theme developers and WordPress users. That’s why we are giving each detail extra care and attention. In short, we want you to actually able to do whatever you like. It has been in development for quite a while and we’re closing in on a first version, something that we are very excited about!

Some of the features will include:

  • Shortcodes
  • Layout setting
  • Custom CSS
  • Thumbnail setting
  • Child theme support
  • Sidebar manager
  • Meta post manager
  • Slider setting
  • General Typography
  • Post Content setting
  • Pagination settings
  • Up to spec with the latest WordPress Theme Review standards
  • and much more!

Here are a few screen shots of the backend to wet your lips:

Thanks! EstateExpert and all the themes that we have here are independent. They won’t use the Backbone framework. Backbone will have its own child themes.
So going ahead, we will release independent themes along with Backbone child themes.

    Looks good on the themefront.

And yes. A framework that you can build themes upon is great. It makes things so much easier to make different themes.

Both happy and sad about this news. Great that you´re going to make a framework. But how will you react with your older themes? Will they get “upgraded” with the framework as well? Or will they remain as they are now?
