Installing FoodMagz

Backbone Installation

Before you can use the powerful features of FoodMagz theme completely, you need to install Backbone as it’s parent theme:

  1. Download and install Backbone theme from your member area. After you finish downloading open your WordPress dashboard → Appearance → Themes → Install, upload your backbone.zip or
  2. After downloading backbone.zip extract that file into your computer drive, open your FTP using 3rd party software like FileZilla, go to Public HTML → WP-content → themes. Upload your Backbone folder there

There are two ways to install FoodMagz theme on your WordPress:

1. Installing via WordPress Dashboard

  1. Navigate to your WordPress Admin Menu and open Appearance → Themes section
  2. Switch to Install Themes tab
  3. Select Upload
  4. Browse for backbone.zip file on your computer and install it
  5. Browse for foodmagz.zip file on your computer and install it
  6. Activate FoodMagz theme

2. Installing via FTP

  1. Open your FTP Client Application (example : FileZilla)
  2. Fill the login details (host, username, and password) then press Quickconnect
  3. Go to ‘wp-content’ folder
  4. Go to ‘themes’ folder
  5. Extract backbone.zip and foodmagz.zip files into your local drive, search the current location and upload backbone and foodmagz folder

Got an error during installation process? Try the following:

  • If you are upgrading the FoodMagz theme via WordPress Admin menu, open your ‘foodmagz.zip’, rename the ‘foodmagz’ folder before uploading. Eg: foodmagz2. Then press Enter
  • Make sure if you have already got the lastest version of Backbone
  • Make sure you are using the latest version of WordPress
  • Make sure your hosting is running the latest version of PHP and MySQL
    Try to upload manually via FTP (FileZilla)

Theme Overview

General Settings

Before you can start creating some content, these are the first-time settings that you have to do:

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → General Settings
  2. You can set your own color by this option. This color scheme will change the color for page navigation, all links and all buttons.
  3. You can choose to display blog title or your own logo. If you want to upload your own logo, the best size is 260 x 60px
  4. FoodMagz let you to choose where the comment form will appear, you can choose: only displayed at post, page or both of them
  5. You can set the pagination at your blog, you can choose pagination style (numbers) or blog like style (next and previous link)
  6. You can choose to display your breadcrumbs or not
  7. On front page search box, you can set custom filter from your category, so your subscribers can search for specific post easily 

Front Page Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Frontpage Settings
  2. Headline Title: You can set the title of headline section (HTML is not supported on this box)
  3. Featured Title: You can set the title of featured section (HTML is not supported on this box)
  4. Latest Title: You can set the title of latest posts section (HTML is not supported on this box
  5. Headline category: You have to set any category you want to set at headline section
  6. Featured Category: You have to set any category you want to set at featured section. This section will only display one post of you category
  7. Latest Post: You can limit how many latest posts you want to display on frontpage. ‘Latest post section’ will not take any post which category already set for headline and featured section to prevent double post

Social Networking

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Social Networking
  2. You can insert any social URL you have on available social networking option
  3. You can set to display social share buttons or not (Facebook like button, Twitter share button and Google +1 button). This social buttons will be displayed on single posts

Subscribe Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Subscribe Settings
  2. You can insert your Feedburner ID here, so people who visit your blog can subscribe for your updates
  3. You can display related posts at single post page or not

Footer Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Footer Settings
  2. You can enable custom credit or not. If you want to have your own credit you can type any HTML tags here

Top Ad Management

    1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Top Ad Management
    2. You can enable/disable top ad.
      Top ad support for any AdSense code or custom ad. If you want to use AdSense code, you can insert at the text box (the size must be 728 x 90px). Or if you don’t want to use AdSense code, you can insert any images with dimensions of 728 x 90px then type the destinations URL

Single Ad

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Single Ad
  2. You can enable/disable single ad.
    Top ad support for any AdSense code or custom ad. If you want to use AdSense code, you can insert at the text box (the size must be 468 x 60px). Or if you don’t want to use AdSense code, you can insert any images with dimensions of 468 x 60px then type the destinations URL

Contact Form

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → FoodMagz → Contact Form
  2. If you want to create contact page template, you have to insert the destination e-mail here

Mega Menu

FoodMagz support to display mega menu at top menu navigation, this mega menu will make your blog more professional. To create them please follow the instructions bellow:

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Appearances → Menus.
    First you have to create the menu group first (click on ‘+’ sign) then take a look for custom links tab at your left.To create mega menu parents you have to insert ‘#’ at URL box then type the label as you want (eg: Mega Menu)
  2. Tick the check box that says ‘use as mega menu
  3. To create the child items, you have to repeat the steps above. But this time after the menu item created, you have to drag the menu item to the right and tick the check box labeled ‘this column should start a new row‘.
    For child menu items, if you want to create unlabelled items you can insert ‘-’ in label text box

Creating a Page Template

FoodMagz have several page templates which you can use to improve your blogging experience, they are: Contact Form and Sitemap.

Please read this to know how to create them:

  1. You can just type the page title then skip the body content (left it blank)
  2. Take a look for page attributes on your right, select page template and choose what you want to create. All of page template available is don’t need any content except default template (WordPress default page)
  3. You can also combined the template with ColorLabs Layout Settings

Creating a Post

FoodMagz support to display any video from Youtube or Vimeo. You can add any video(s) by following these steps:

When creating a video or default post, make sure if you check at ‘ColorLabs Image/Video Settings’.
In this option you can select which items will displayed (as thumbnail). If you want to insert video from Youtube or Vimeo please check at image below:

  • At Youtube, open your video, then click on share
  • Then click on embed
  • After a box with code appear, copy that code at the box to the available box which will appear when you click on ‘embed’ at post setting
  1. If you choose to add an image to your post, you can choose the zoom point of it (the available options are: default, center, top, bottom, left and right)
  2. You can also set for every post have a different Ads, this can be AdSense code or an image with destination link (the best resolution is 468 x 60px)
  3. You can also set the display setting for each post by clicking on available option (no style – default, right sidebar, left sidebar)

Import / Export Settings

At the new ColorLabs theme, we added import / export feature for you who have to manage several sites but want all of it have the same settings. To make it, please follow these instructions:

  1. If you take a look at foodMagz.zip you will find dummy content folder which contains 2 files, json and xml file.
    If your site want to be setted like our demo you can upload the json file at this option
  2. Or if you already have one site and want to make or manage the other to have the same settings as you did at your first site, you can download the export file (json file) and upload it to your another site then it will have the same settings
