Installing Le Journal
Backbone Installation
Before you can use the powerful features of Le Journal theme completely, you need to install Backbone as its parent theme:
- Download and install Backbone theme from your member area. After you finish downloading, open your WordPress dashboard → Appearance → Themes → Install then upload your backbone.zip or
- After downloading backbone.zip, extract that file into your computer drive then open your FTP using 3rd party software like FileZilla then go to Public HTML → WP-content → themes. Upload your Backbone folder there
There are two ways to install Le Journal theme on your WordPress:
1. Installing via WordPress Dashboard
- Navigate to your WordPress Admin Menu and open Appearance → Themes section
- Switch to Install Themes tab
- Select Upload
- Browse for backbone.zip file on your computer and install it
- Browse for le-journal.zip file on your computer and install it
- Activate Le Journal theme
2. Installing via FTP
- Open your FTP Client Application (example : FileZilla)
- Fill the login details (host, username, and password) then press Quickconnect
- Go to ‘wp-content’ folder
- Go to ‘themes’ folder
- Extract backbone.zip and le-journal.zip files into your local drive and search the current location and upload backbone and le-journal folder
Got an error during installation process? Try the following:
- If you are upgrading the le-journal theme via WordPress Admin menu open your ‘le-journal.zip’ and rename the ‘le-journal’ folder before uploading. Eg: le-journal2. Then press Enter
- Make sure if you have already got the lastest version of Backbone
- Make sure you are using the latest version of WordPress
- Make sure your hosting is running the latest version of PHP and MySQL
Try to upload manually via FTP (FileZilla)
Theme Overview

General Settings
Before you can start creating some content, these are the first settings that you have to do:

- Go to Arthemia dashboard → General Settings. (To operate our new theme panel you can drag and drop the menu icon to the right blank space)
- As newspaper theme Le Journal will display which country or city is your site for. You can just type it then your city or country will be displayed on front page before the date.Date is taken from your server hosting provider. But by using WordPress, you can set where you are by going to WordPress dashboard → Settings → General → Timezone
- You can set to display your blog title or your own logo:
- Blog titleI you choose to displayblog title then your site title and description will appear on front page. To change your blog title and description you can go to WordPress dashboard → settings → General.
- LogoIf you prefer to use your own logo image, best size for it is 223 x 143px
- When you upload your logo, the logo will be displayed in case if you upload a wrong picture, so you can upload the right image.The image is displaying the actual size, so you can see how the image will displayed on front page
- Le Journal support for several page template and one of it is ‘blog template’. Blog template will show all of post(s) you have, for pagination you can choose between numbers (WordPress style) or next/previous link (Blogger style)
Front Page Settings

Le Journal have a primary post slider, to set them you can:
- Go to Le Journal dashboard → Front Page Settings
- You can set how many posts will displayed at primary post slider.Primary post slider will take any post with sticky label to display any post at primary slider. Make sure that you add sticky label to your post.But if you don’t have any sticky post, primary slider will take your latest post(s)
Social Networking

Le Journal can be integrated with some social networking, to set them you have to:
- Go to Le Journal dashboard → Social Networking
- Any social networking link you filled that social networking will active so if you don’t want some social networking appear at your site don’t type anything at that link box
- You can also display auto share on your page(s) or post(s) by clicking (choose) any of available share buttons. To make it works make sure that you have already filled the social link at point #2
Subscribe Settings

- To set Le Journal subscribe settings please go to Le Journal dashboard → Subscribe Settings
- You can show or hide subscribe by RSS at single post by ticking this option
- Like a Widget, you can set the title and some text before your subscribers fill their e-mail address
- You can also hide or unhide RSS icon at your site by ticking this option
- At the very end of your post (after comment form) you can hide or unhide related post by caetgory (number of posts will be displayed is 5)
Footer Settings

- You can set several settings at footer. To set them go to Le Journal Dashboard → Footer Settings
- The same as primary slider at header, footer also have slider. You can set how many post(s) will displayed at footer slider
- The slider at footer is different than primary slider, footer slider will take any post(s) under tag(s) that declared at this point. You will be helped by the information next to the box about how many and what tag(s) you have, so you don’t have to open another window to check the tag(s)
- This option will disable if at General Settings point #3 you choose title. This option is more like footer logo.The best resolution for this feature is 138 x 54 px)
- You can also activate custom footer text at the middle of footer. You can type any HTML tags in this box
Single Ad

- To set single ad (displayed at post content) go to Le Journal dashboard → Single Ad
- You can choose this option to be enable or disable by clicking on it.At this option you can also insert any AdSense code or image (the best resolution is 468 x 60px) with a destination link
Creating a Post
Le Journal support to display any video from Youtube or Vimeo. You can add any video(s) by following these steps:

- When you are creating a post, make sure that you check at ‘ColorLabs Image/Video Settings’. At this option you can select which items will display (as thumbnail). If you want to insert video from Youtube or Vimeo please check at the image below:
- At Youtube open your video then click on share
- Then click on embed
- After a box with code appear copy that code at the box to the available box which will appear when you click on ‘embed’ at post setting
- You can also set for every post have a different Ads, this can be AdSense code or
- An image with destination link (the best resolution is 468 x 60px)
- You can also set the display setting for each post by click on available option
Creating a Page With Template
Le Journal has several page templates that you can use. Please follow the instructions below:

Start with make a new page then have a look for right sidebar at ‘Page Attributes’. You can select Advanced Search Page, Archives, Contact Form, Gallery, Sitemap and Blog.
All of them don’t need body content, so after type the title and select the template you can go on to publish the page.

Menu Configuration
Le Journal theme supports one slot WordPress Custom Menu. Here are the instructions to set it up:
- Navigate to Appearance → Menus section
- Click on “+” to create a new menu
- Press Save Menu button to register your newly created menu
- Add Pages, Categories or Custom Links to your menu
- Drag and drop items from your menu to put them in the order you want it to create parent-child menus. Don’t forget to save your modification
- Assign your menu to Theme Locations

Import / Export Settings
At the new ColorLabs theme, we added import / export feature for you who have to manage several sites but want all of it have the same settings. To make it please follow these instructions:

- If you take a look at le-journal.zip you will find dummy content folder which contains 2 files: json and xml file.If your site want to be setted like our demo you can upload the json file at these option
- Or if you already have one site and want to make or manage the other to have the same settings as you did at your first site you can download the export file (json file) and upload it to your another site then it will have the same settings
