Installing Persona

Backbone Installation

Before you can fully use the powerful features of Persona theme, you need to install Backbone as it parent theme:

  1. Download and install Backbone theme from your member area. After you finish downloading open your WordPress dashboard → Appearance → Themes → Install, upload your backbone.zip or
  2. After downloading backbone.zip extract that file into your computer drive then open your FTP using 3rd party software like FileZilla then go to Public HTML → WP-content → themes. Upload your Backbone folder there

There are two ways to install Persona theme on your WordPress:

1. Installing via WordPress Dashboard

  1. Navigate to your WordPress Admin Menu and open Appearance → Themes section
  2. Switch to Install Themes tab
  3. Select Upload
  4. Browse for backbone.zip file on your computer and install it
  5. Browse for persona.zip file on your computer and install it
  6. Activate Persona theme

2. Installing via FTP

  1. Open your FTP Client Application (example : FileZilla)
  2. Fill the login details (host, username, and password), then press Quickconnect
  3. Go to ‘wp-content’ folder
  4. Go to ‘themes’ folder
  5. Extract backbone.zip and persona.zip files into your local drive, search the current location and upload backbone and persona folder

Got an error during installation process? Try the following:

  • If you are upgrading the vidio theme via WordPress Admin menu, open your ‘persona.zip’ rename the ‘persona’ folder before uploading. Eg: persona2. Then press Enter
  • Make sure if you already got the lastest version of Backbone
  • Make sure you are using the latest version of WordPress
  • Make sure your hosting is running the latest version of PHP and MySQL
    Try to upload manually via FTP (FileZilla)

As administrator you can set the position at frontpage by drag and drop it.

General Settings

Before you can start creating some content these are the first-time settings that you have to do:

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → General Settings
  2. Author Blog: You can choose who is the author of your site. You can make another author from WordPress dashboard → Users
  3. Post/Page Comments: You can choose at where comment form will appear
  4. Breadcrumbs: You can choose to displaying breadcrumbs or not

FrontPage Instagram Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → FrontPage Instagram Settings
  2. Instagram: You can choose to activate/deactivate Instagram at your frontpage
  3. Title Instagram: You can type Instagram title at frontpage
  4. Type: You can choose the source of Instagram. It can be Popular, Self, Feed
  5. Size Instagram: You can set the size of Instagram picture size, the image is square (default is 125)
  6. Count Instagram: You can set how many Instagram picture(s) will be displayed at frontpage (default is 24)
  7. Fancybox Instagram: Fancybox is our feature to display image with lightbox (build by JQuery) you can choose to use it or not. By activate it your site will become slow a little bit but it will be more beautiful
  8. Random Instagram: You can set to display a random picture or not
  9. Tag Instagram: If you want to display an images with a tags you can insert it here separated by coma
  10. Address/Coordinate Instagram: You can type where is the pictures taken

Instagram Settings

Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Instagram Settings

  1. Refresh Cache: You can set the refresh rate in minute to speed up your site
  2. Fancybox: Fancybox is our feature to display the image with lightbox effect (made by JQuery). If you want to use it your site will become more beauty, but the speed will decrease a little
  3. Width Attributes: To make responsive layout working this option must be disabled. But if you want to de-activate responsive feature you can activate this feature

FrontPage Blog Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → FrontPage Blog Settings
  2. Blog: You can set to display the blog section at frontpage or not
  3. Latest Post Limit: You can set how many posts you want to display at blog section

FrontPage Twitter Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → FrontPage Twitter Settings
  2. Twitter: You can set to display Twitter section at front page or not
  3. Twitter Title: You can type the title of Twitter section
  4. Twitter Username: You have to type your Twitter username to make it works
  5. Twitter Limit: You can set how many tweets will be displayed at Twitter section (default is 20)

FronPage Flickr Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → FrontPage Flickr Settings
  2. Flickr: You can set to display Flikcr section at front page or not
  3. Flickr Title: You can type the title of Flickr section
  4. Flickr ID: You can type Flickr ID here to make it works
  5. Flickr Limit: You can set how many Flickr images you want to displays (default is 14)
  6. Flickr Type: You can set the Flickr type, it can be user or group
  7. Flickr Sorting: You can set the sorting of Flickr images, it can be random or latest first
  8. Flickr Size: You can set the size of Flickr images (default is medium)

FrontPage Pinterest Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → FrontPage Pinterest Settings
  2. Pinterest: You can set to display Pinterest section or not
  3. Title Pinterest: You can type Pinterest section title
  4. Pinterest Username: You have to type your username to make it works
  5. Count Pinterest: You have to set how many Pinterest images will be displayed (default is 10)
  6. Specific Board: You can type a specific board

Social Networking

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Social Settings
  2. Social URLs: You have to type your social links here to get shared
  3. Social Share Buttons: You can set to display social share buttons or not. This button will be displayed at single post

Analytics ID, RSS Feed

    1. Go to WordPress Dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Analytics ID, RSS Feed

Footer Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Footer Settings
  2. Activate Custom Credit: You can set to use your custom credit or not at the text box you can type any HTML tags

Post Settings

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Post Settings
  2. Post Author: You can set to hide post author below post or not
  3. Related Post: You can set to display related post or not at single post page

Single Ad

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Single Ad
  2. Single Ad: You can enable ad at single page. You can use any Adsense code or use an image instead. If you prefer to use an image you have to set the direct links

Contact Form

  1. Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Dashboard → Contact Form
  2. E-mail Address: If you want to create a contact page template then you have to insert your e-mail address here as the destination

Facebook Settings

Go to WordPress dashboard → Persona → Facebook Settings

  1. App ID: You have to insert your app ID here to make it works
  2. App Secret: You have to insert your app secret to make it works
  3. App Namespace: You have to insert your app name here to make it works
  4. Social Publisher: You can use social publisher or not. You can read more explanation at readme
  5. Recommend Button: You can use recommend button or not. You can read more explanation at readme
  6. Subscribe Button: You can use subscribe button or not. You can read more explanation at readme
  7. Send Button: You can use send button or not. You can read more explanation at readme
  8. Comments: You can use Facebook comments template or not. You can read more explanation at readme
  9. Recomendations Bar: You can use recommendation bar at single post page or not. You can read more explanation at readme

Creating Page Template

Persona support for a page templates: Blog, Contact Form, Gallery, and Sitemap. All of them don’t need any content so just type the title, set the template then publish it.

Persona also support for layout, this settings only works for default template so you can type any content on it. This layout will set the sidebar position. It can be no sidebar, left sidebar, or right sidebar.

Creating a Post

Persona support to display any video from Youtube or Vimeo. You can add any video(s) by following these steps:

When creating a video or default post make sure if you check at ‘ColorLabs Image/Video Settings’.
At these option you can select which items will displayed (as thumbnail). If you want to insert video from Youtube or Vimeo please check at image below:

  • At Youtube, open your video, then click on share
  • Then click on embed
  • After a box with code appear, copy that code at the box to the available box which will appear when you click on ‘embed’ at post setting
  1. If you choose to add an image to your post, you can choose the zoom point of it (the available options are: default, center, top, bottom, left and right)
  2. You can also set for every post have a different Ads, this can be AdSense code or an image with destination link (the best resolution is 468 x 60px)
  3. You can also set the display setting for each post by click on available option (no style – default, right sidebar, left sidebar)

Menu Configuration

Persona theme supports two slots WordPress Custom Menu. Here are the instructions to set it up:

  1. Navigate to Appearance → Menus section.
    Click on “+” to create a new menu and press Save Menu button to register your newly created menu
  2. Add Pages, Categories or Custom Links to your menu. Drag and drop items from your menu to put them in the order you want it to create parent-child menus. Don’t forget to save your modification
  3. Assign your menu to Theme Locations

Import / Export Settings

At the new ColorLabs theme, we added import / export feature for you who have to manage several sites but want all of it have the same settings. To make it please follow these instructions:

  1. If you take a look at persona.zip you will find dummy content folder which contains 2 files, json and xml file.
    If your site want to be setted like our demo you can upload the json file at these option
  2. Or if you already have one site and want to make or manage the other to have the same settings as you did at your first site. You can download the export file (json file) and upload it to your another site then it will have the same settings
