Installing Simple Reader
There are two ways to install Simple Reader theme on your WordPress:
1. Installing via WordPress Dashboard
- Navigate to your WordPress Admin Menu and open Appearance → Themes section
- Switch to Install Themes tab
- Select Upload
- Browse for .zip file on your computer and install it
- Activate theme
2. Installing via FTP
- Open your FTP Client Application (example: FileZilla)
- Fill the login details (host, username, and password) then press quick connect
- Go to ‘wp-content’ folder
- Go to ‘themes’ folder
- Extract the simplereader.zip file into your local drive then search the current location and upload the platformate folder
Got an error during installation process? Try the following:
- If you are upgrading the Simple Reader theme via WordPress Admin menu open your ‘simplereader.zip’ and rename the ‘simplereader‘ folder before uploading. Eg: simplereader2. Then press Enter.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of WordPress
- Make sure your hosting is running the latest version of PHP and MySQL
- Try to upload manually via FTP (FileZilla)
- Be sure you have at least PHP 4.3 with GD-library installed on your server. PHP 5 is better. GD library is something that can be installed by your web server admin. If you do not have this, please ask for that to your web administrator, and also at least WordPress 3.2.1 engine is installed.
Theme Overview
General Settings
Before you can start creating some content, these are the first-time settings that you have to do:
- Go to Dashboard → Appearance → Simple Reader Control Panel → General
- There are 2 options available for your theme stylesheet, they are grey and blue (grey is the default)
- Simple Reader got a drop-down menu at header, you can choose what is the content for that drop-down. There are three options for drop-down, they are:
- Categories, Simple Reader will automatically search and displayed all categories you have at drop-down menu
- Custom Menu, you can also made your own menu at Appearance → Menus
- Pages, Simple Reader will automatically search and displayed all pages you have at drop-down menu
- You can also have your own credit at footer. In the text box you can insert any HTML tag(s) like ‘anchor’, ‘paragraph’, ‘font’, etc
- Presstrends tracking is our feature to know how our customer use our theme, we use this feature for the next upgrade of theme you use. But there will be no personal information we get, so your privacy is safe.
It’s your choice to use it or not
Styling Options
- Go to Dashboard → Appearance → Simple Reader control panel
- Open theme options → styling options
- You can select background colour by inserting hexa code or you can also using the colour select option. This option will not affect headline background
- Or you can also uploading your own image to be your background
- There is also an option for how your background image repeating. The options available are:
- no-repeat
- repeat-x
- repeat-y
- Besides you can configure the repeat type of background, you can also configure the position of it. The options available are:
- Top-left
- Top-center
- Top-right
- Center-left
- Center-center
- Center-right
- Bottom-left
- Bottom-center
- Bottom-right
- At styling options you can also configure your link colour by inserting hexa code or using colour picker
- Not only the static colour of link you can edit, the colour when your links is hovered can also edited by inserting hexa code or using colour picker
- The styling option also available for button, you can configure the colour of the static button
- Then for the hovered button option also available
- The last thing for button styling is text, you can edit it by inserting hexa code or using colour picker
- We also give an option to you who expert on HTML and CSS to make your own styling by inserting your code at text area available. Inserting CSS code here is more saver than editing the style file directly
After uploading image for background you can configure the size of it (we suggest for using ‘full size’). Inserting caption and also configure the allignment will affect nothing. If you want to set that image to be your background you can click ‘insert to post’ to complete your action.
Page Template
There are 6 page templates available to choose (including default template from WordPress), here is the instruction to use them.
- Go to pages → add new
- Text in the body is optional and not all of page templates need body information to work
- After add the name of the page you can select what page you want to make by clicking the ‘template’. By default the template is ‘default template by WordPress’
- Beside default template from WordPress you can select 5 templates to make your page efective, there are:
- Contact Form
- Full Page
- Gallery
- Sitemap
- Tag Archive

When you make page with contact form template the information filled in will be sent to your e-mail then here is how to set your e-mail as recepient.
- Go to Simple Reader Control panel → Contact Form
- Just type your e-mail address at available textbox
