So, you’re getting married. Congratulations! You’re about to take one of the biggest steps you’ll ever take in your life. It’s a happy occasion, but it can also be an expensive one, and it takes a lot of planning! Even after your planning for the big day itself is done, there’s still honeymoon ideas to consider.
In recent years we’ve seen a trend – especially among younger people – to skip out on honeymoons altogether. We don’t back that idea. Even if your wedding goes without a hitch (if you’ll excuse the pun), you’ll want and need a break after all the effort you’ve put into making it happen. A honeymoon isn’t just a celebration of your special day – it’s a chance to relax and unwind after expending so much energy. Some people believe that it’s planning, and while we’re not sure we’d go that far, we understand where those people are coming from.
Deciding where to go on your honeymoon isn’t necessarily easy, but there’s literally a world of options available to you. Do you want total relaxation or a pinch of excitement? Would you rather spend your time relaxing by the beach or going on adventures? Perhaps there’s a way to do a bit of both? Check out these five great honeymoon ideas, and see if there’s something in here that appeals to both of you!
Why do we nominate Las Vegas? Because it’s the global capital of fun. You could even do a ‘two for one’ and have your wedding in Las Vegas, too. We’re not suggesting that you should spend your whole honeymoon in casinos, but there’s more to Vegas than casinos. The city has had to diversify its offerings because of the emergence of online slots websites. Sin City no longer has a monopoly on gambling, because since online slots websites were invented, people can play Paypal slots no matter where they are. What Vegas also has to offer you is fine dining, one-of-a-kind shows featuring legendary entertainers, dramatic scenery, and day trips to the Grand Canyon. No matter how sophisticated online slots websites become, they’ll never be able to offer you that. Las Vegas is on the top of our great honeymoon ideas.
We don’t know what’s taken the world so long to catch on to the idea of Bora Bora in French Polynesia as a perfect romantic getaway destination. Still, it seems that the message is finally getting through now. This tiny Pacific island is nicknamed ‘The Jewel of the South Seas,’ and it fully deserves both the name and the reputation. If you’ve got the budget to support it, you could spend your honeymoon in a literal floating villa overlooking perfect blue water, breathtaking mountains, and stunning coral reefs. Even the fish are pretty. If you do Bora Bora right, it will be your own private oasis and a place where you make memories that will last for a lifetime.
In 1956, someone had the wise idea to plant a tiny amount of phlox seeds in a field in Takinoue, Japan. Seventy years later, that tiny set of seeds has grown and expanded, and it’s now a whole park. To be more specific, it’s a bright pink park right in front of a snow-capped mountain, and it looks like nowhere else on Earth. It’s like standing in the middle of a special effect from a big-budget Hollywood movie! You’ll have to go in June if you want to experience it at its best, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that the park is all that Takinoue has to offer. A whole tourist industry has sprung up around the park. Japan isn’t especially well-known as a honeymoon destination. The people who work within that tourist industry are especially eager to please in the hope that you’ll go back home and tell other people about them.
This suggestion isn’t especially outrageous. Plenty of people go to the Maldives for their honeymoon, and the Maldives is where you’ll find Vaadhoo Island. For our money, though, this is the most special of all the islands that the Maldives has to offer. This is an option that should appeal to you if your idea of a perfect honeymoon is a totally relaxing one. The beaches are beautiful, the sand is clean, and the stars come out and twinkle every time the sun goes down. You might not be looking up at the stars, though. You’re more likely to be looking at the sea and wondering how it could possibly be real. The waves that lap the beaches of Vaadhoo Island literally glow and sparkle. Nobody seems to know exactly why it happens, but it’s an astonishing thing to witness, and doubly so at sunset. This is a magical place.
Giraffe Manor, Nairobi
We’re going to try to sell you on the idea of visiting this Kenyan location with one very short, very effective sentence. Here it comes. “Breakfast with giraffes.” How does that grab you? If the answer to that question is “very well,” then your search for a perfect honeymoon destination is at an end. There’s nowhere else on the planet quite like Giraffe Manor. The giraffes share the guesthouse with you. They will occasionally poke their heads in through the windows of the manor to be fed. Or perhaps just for a stroke and a bit of affection. They’re all friendly and well-trained, and they enjoy the company of humans. In the unlikely event that this one-of-a-kind novelty wears off during your stay there, you have the whole of Kenya’s capital city on your doorstep to head out and explore. It’s a honeymoon with a hint of safari!
We’ve done our best to include a destination for every kind of couple here, from the hedonists who’d love to be in Vegas to the chilled-out souls who’d rather be walking under the starlight of the Maldives. There are wonders to be found in all five locations, and we’re confident that you’d have a good time no matter which one you chose. Perhaps you have your own idea in mind, though, and it’s nothing like anything we’ve included on this list. If so, go out and book it. Don’t skip out on your honeymoon. You’ll probably only ever get one chance to do it! Check out these five great honeymoon ideas.
