How to Make Staying In Fun Over the Winter

We know that winter can feel a little dreary and inhospitable, but you’re still fully capable of enjoying yourself – even if you do find yourself cooped up indoors more often than you’d like. Whether you’re snowed in by a massive blizzard, or you simply suffer from seasonal depression disorder, there’s got to be something you can do to pass the time. 

The truth is that spending winter indoors can be an enjoyable, cozy experience – if you play your cards right. Fortunately for you, we’re full of ideas that can make these cold, dark months exciting and fulfilling. Spending time indoors doesn’t have to be confining. If you view it as an opportunity to try new things, Winter can be just as memorable as any other season.

Almost everyone loves arts and crafts, but it seems like we never have the time to indulge ourselves. Well, guess what? Winter is the perfect time to get your supplies together, bring out your creative side, and engage in whatever hobby you’ve been neglecting over the past little while.  You can even purchase paint by number painting kits to help you get started.  Make sure you have plenty of supplies on hand for that winter day.

Maybe you’ll decide to make your own candles. What about painting a picture? You could paint model soldiers, or even go back to the basics with a coloring book. Simple creative tasks can be an excellent outlet, especially when it comes to unwinding and relaxing during winter. 

Work Out

You don’t have to go to the gym to get a solid work out. The lack of sunshine often prevents people from getting exercise outdoors because they’re less likely to do things like hiking or soccer. You can stay active with just a few square feet of space, and working out can seriously brighten your mood during these dark months. 

You might want to look into plyometrics or a similar approach that doesn’t involve lifting weights. Even just 20 minutes a day of pushups and situps can go a long way when it comes to increasing your health and mood. 

Plan Your Summer Vacation

Even though summer might seem like it’s ages away, you can get into the spirit of the sunnier months by planning your next vacation over the winter. It’s always a smart idea to plan ahead when it comes to vacations, and you’ll probably find better deals when you buy tickets and your hotel rooms ahead of time. 

When the summer rolls around, you’ll be thankful you spent the time organizing everything down to a T. If you’re the type that enjoys planning and creating your dream vacation, this could be an excellent way to spend the winter months. 

Order Food

You might not want to brave the cold to visit your favorite restaurant, but you can have your favorite food delivered right to your doorstep. Take Hot Drinks to a New Level

Winter is the perfect time to try a whole range of new hot drinks. Even the coldest days can be cozy and cheerful when you’ve got a warm cup of something or other nestled in your hands. If you thought you were limited to coffee, hot chocolate, and tea, think again. 

Why not try a cup of warm, spiced coconut-almond milk? What about the famous Mexican hot pineapple drink? Warm mulled cider sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Expand your horizons with almond and maple hot chocolate. Maybe try hot lemon water. Or if you want to get really wild, you could try whipping up a dandelion latte. The possibilities are endless.  

Grow Plants Indoors

Even though all plant life outdoors might look dead and withered, you can create your own little jungle within your home without much work. With a basic LED grow light, you can grow a range of beautiful tropical plants on your windowsill or in the corner of your room. You can even set up a miniature indoor greenhouse. 

Seeing these plants flower provides a touching degree of life and color, which is often needed during the often dull winter months. Caring for these plants can become a gratifying hobby, and a few plants can really spice up your interior decor. 

Go All Out For Breakfast Time

Hearty breakfasts are the cornerstone of any winter day, and it’s easier to put on a brave face when you step out into the cold with warm food in your belly. These are the months where you should be taking your breakfasts to a new level. 

Go all out. Make the best breakfasts you can possibly imagine. Comfort food is pretty much mandatory for survival of the winter. 

Video Games

If there’s one time during the year where it’s acceptable to spend hours playing video games, it’s the winter. We all know that playing outside just isn’t possible when it gets too cold, but you can still have lots of fun indoors when you play your favorite video games. 

Gaming doesn’t have to be a solitary event, either. You can connect with your friends, hang out and play together, and keep your social life active – even if none of your friends want to leave the warm confines of their homes. 

Bubble Baths

There’s nothing better than a bubble bath during winter. Splurge on the most luxurious bubble bath liquid, light a few candles, and relax. Even the coldest winter days can become more manageable with a bubble bath. 

Even if bubble baths aren’t your style, we encourage you to give it a try – especially if the winter months are getting you down. Who knows? It might just become a daily routine. 

Winter Vacation

Of course, if the winter seems like it is just stretching out too long, you can always take a winter vacation.  Go somewhere warm for a few weeks and get energized.
