Ultimate Guide to Preventing Baldness Before your Wedding Day

Baldness can occur because of numerous reasons. Age and genetics are the most common reasons. However, whatever the reason, it is better to take part in some preventative measures so that you can prevent baldness especially before your wedding day. Engage in these methods before it’s too late as you want to make sure that you look your absolute best for your bride or groom. So below are some measures you can follow which should hopefully prevent balding.

Shampoo less often

Shampoo less often

The number of hair products that are out there is numerous. Even though many people believe that shampooing hair daily is good for the hair; that is just a myth. The opposite is actually true. Shampooing is not natural to hair. The shampoo has chemicals that remove the much-needed oil and nutrients, causing it to become thin and weak. This makes it easier for the hair to come out of its follicles, causing baldness.

However, this does not mean you do not shampoo your hair at all. That is not healthy either. You just have to find the perfect shampoo for yourself. If you have greasy/oily hair, use a shampoo that is anti-dandruff and anti-fungal.

You can use ketoconazole shampoo. The product in this chemical kills off fungi in the scalp and decreases the dihydrotestosterone in it.

Reduce Stress

Stress is a major cause of hair loss. In case of trauma—physical or emotional— stress can aggravate hair loss. Hence, it is imperative to reduce stress by engaging in non-stressful situations. However, that is not always possible. For this reason, you can engage in stress relieving exercises or aerobic exercises that help to reduce stress hormones. Try deep breathing exercises. Keep inhaling and exhaling until you feel yourself calm down. Go for a walk, jog, or swim on a regular basis. Engage in yoga exercises. Research has shown that all of the above-mentioned exercises help to reduce cortisol and epinephrine levels—both of which increase under stress.

Change Your Diet

Just like our body’s health is determined by food so is our hair’s health. For hair growth, the hair needs certain nutrients. The absence of certain nutrients can weaken hair growth, and excess of some nutrients can impact hair growth cycle.

A diet that is insufficient in iron, vitamin B and protein –all produce keratin— can shorten the anagen stage of hair and elongate the telogen phase of hair— the resting phase. Biotin-rich foods are encouraged to promote hair growth. These include cooked eggs, bananas, soybeans and mushrooms, etc.

In your diet, try to avoid vitamin A. An excess of this vitamin can affect the body negatively, causing fatigue, loss of appetite, and then hair loss.

Foods high in mercury levels, such as mackerel, tuna and swordfish, weaken hair and increase the chance of hair loss.

Sugar stimulates the production of androgen—a male hormone— which is responsible for hair loss. Androgen reduces the size of the follicles. This causes the hair to fall out.

Fried food increases the production of dihydrotestosterone, which causes hair loss.

The Following are a Big NO If You Want to Prevent Baldness

  • Tight hats and ponytails need to be avoided. This causes permanent damage as it pulls hair out from its follicles
  • Do not towel dry your hair. When your hair is wet, it is the most vulnerable. If force is applied to it, it can easily come off your scalp. Rubbing your hair aggressively will weaken your hair, increasing the chances of it falling off.
  • Just because you cannot use a towel, it does not mean you use a hairdryer. Generally using hair appliances like a straightener, curling iron, and dryer are not recommended. When hair is exposed to heat, it fractures the bonds within the hair strands. If you do not have another option and have to use these tools, then make sure that you do not use them on wet hair and on high heat. Both these things can burn your hair and kill of your hair cells. In addition, remember to use a heat-protecting spray. These sprays protect your hair somewhat against heat.
  • Stay away from chemicals. Even though bleaching and dying hair is the new common thing, it is better to avoid that as much as possible. All these chemicals can damage the hair shaft, which then makes it easier for hair to fall off.

Take care of your scalp

The scalp is the root of your hair. If that is not taken care of, your hair strands can weaken.

To take care of your scalp, give it a massage regularly. This will stimulate growth. It would be better if you massage it after applying essential oils to it. These oils have regenerative properties that soothe your scalp and encourage hair growth.

By moving your fingers in a circular motion on your scalp, you can reduce your stress and promote hair re-growth.

Medicine

While the methods mentioned above are great preventative measure, if baldness is genetic, these measures do not prove to be the most effective. Hence, according to Click Pharmacy, medicine like Regaine and Finasteride (Propecia) are effective methods.

Minoxidil (Regaine)

This is one of the most well-known medications to prevent hair loss and baldness. It comes in liquid or foam form, and it is applied on the scalp, which then promotes hair growth and prevents further hair loss. It basically works by widening the hair follicles, which results in thicker strands of hair.

The 5% minoxidil is the most effective, especially if you start using it as soon as you start losing hair.

Finasteride (Propecia)

The pill works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone— the testosterone responsible for hair loss. This medicine is FDA approved, and it is recommended by dermatologists.  Research has highlighted that it can lead to a 47% improvement within 48 weeks in anagen hair— hair in its growth period. This medicine is effective for 90% of the men who suffer from mild male pattern baldness.

However, this drug is not that effective for women.

Spironolactone

This is a diuretic and is an oral medication. These drugs work by blocking the androgens. A dose of 100-200 mg is recommended for use.

Vitamins

Vitamins

Other than medications, you can also take vitamins that can help reduce hair loss and, therefore, prevent baldness.

Riboflavin (B2)

This vitamin is important for cell breathing; it allows sufficient oxygen to the body for cell repair and production.

Niacin (B3)

It helps stimulate hair growth by increasing the width of the capillaries, which then increase the blood circulation to the scalp.

Biotin (B7)

It is a very common ingredient in hair products. It has many hair promoting qualities. It reduces breakage, thickens hair cuticles, and enhances hair cortex flexibility— all of these toughen the hair and reduce the chances of it falling.

Cobalamin (B12)

This vitamin helps in the regeneration of red blood cells that promote healthy hair.

Pyridoxine (B6)

It converts one amino acid into another. For instance, Methionine to Cysteine. This vitamin regulates oil flow to the scalp and skin.

According to Click Pharmacy, it is never too late to engage in preventative measures to prevent baldness. However, it is essential to start as soon as possible for the best results. Nip the problem in the bud by using the above-mentioned solutions and prevent further hair loss!
