Have you been to Los Angeles, California? There is so much to see and do in and around Los Angeles, especially LAX airport. The Pacific Ocean with scenic beaches is nearby. You have museums such as the Museum of Jurassic Technology and ….. not far away is the Sony Pictures Studios, where you can get a two-hour guided walking tour. Plus much more. Below are some interesting places that you may want to visit.

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is an interesting place to visit. It is known for its canals and beaches. There are many shops along the beach with unique products. Go to the skate park and watch the skaters as they do their turns and flips. Don’t miss the outdoor gym at Muscle Beach. You will find many foodie hot spots along Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

Santa Monica Beach and Pier

Santa Monica Beach is part of the California State Park system. There is much to do besides walk on the beach and swim in the Pacific Ocean (if you like cold water). Rent a bicycle and explore some of the many bike trails. Stop and watch or join in on the beach volleyball games. There is an amusement park at the pier. Along the beach and pier, you will find many places to stop and eat. Watch the sunset and enjoy the nightlife along the beach.

Sand Dune Park, Manhattan Beach

Sand Dune Park has 100-foot high sand dune. It is a favorite for people of all ages. Watch amateur and professional athletes train on the steep slope. The nature area has a trail going to the top of the sand dune. There is also a fenced-in area for small children that includes swings, merry-go-round, and climbing equipment. Bring a lunch and enjoy the shaded picnic facilities.  

Roundhouse Aquarium

Roundhouse Aquarium is located at the end of Manhattan Beach Pier. There is no charge to tour the aquarium, but they do take donations. A great place to take the kids for hands-on learning about sea life. Even adults will love the classes about the oceans, marine life, and taking care of the environment.

Sony Pictures Studios

Take a tour of the Sony Pictures Studios. Go behind the scenes and see how movies are made. Visit some of the soundstages from movies like “The Wizard of Oz,” “Men in Black,” and others. Visit the stage where “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” is filmed. Make sure you purchase your tickets in advance.

Griffith Observatory

If you will be spending several nights in the LAX area, you want to be sure and put the Griffith Observatory on your list of places to see. Day or night, you can see a panorama view of Los Angeles. You can even see the famous Hollywood sign from the observatory parking lot. Many hiking trails will give you different viewpoints. On a clear night, you can view the heavens through the Griffith Observatory telescope. The telescope is free to the public when the observatory is open.


There are many shopping malls and shopping districts near the LAX airport. Howard Hughes Promenade is an outdoor mall with restaurants, a theatre, and retail shops. Westfield Culver City has many upscale stores as well as some outlet stores. South Bay Galleria is an indoor mall with retail stores and a food court. Del Amo Fashion Center is a great choice. It is an indoor and outdoor mall containing department stores, restaurants, a theater, and a bowling alley. This is just a short list of the many shopping malls and districts within an hour’s drive of the airport.

Bus Tours

Don’t want to drive in the LA traffic? Leave your car at the airport at LAX parking lot and take a bus tour. Several bus tour companies go to many locations around the Los Angeles area. You can also get a day trip to Tijuana, Mexico. So, park the car and sit back and watch the scenery as someone else does the driving.
