Airplanes to Charter

Much is romanticized about getting married. It only makes sense. In theory, you’re taking the plunge because you’re madly in love and want to spend the rest of your lives together. Every detail surrounding the nuptials is drenched in the language of fairy tales, from venues to flowers to attire and beyond. What these stories we tell ourselves leave out, though, is the anxiety and frustration that often accompanies planning that beautiful big day. Between writing check after expensive check, navigating sometimes contentious relationships with family and friends, and the general emotional tension that comes with making such a huge life decision, it’s anything but a relaxing process.

One way to reclaim the joy that should be surrounding this day of unification is to focus on the escape that follows: your honeymoon. After months of planning and the final high-pressure stretch of actually tying the knot, it’s your chance to kick back, unwind, and celebrate the start of a new chapter in life with your new spouse. There are plenty of ways to make your getaway the sanity restoration you never knew you’d absolutely need.

Make the Travel Part of The Party

When people think about honeymoons, they often focus on three things: location, location, location. While that’s certainly a part of the equation (see below), there’s no need to wait until you’ve arrived to start indulging in the escape. Neglecting the travel details means you miss a major opportunity to put together a sensational trip.

Booking a private jet is just one option to consider. There are a number of options to consider, but the Embraer Legacy 1000 stands out in the crowd. It’s not your average private jet. It features many of the qualities you might expect, including rich, luxurious interiors and all the accommodations a celebrity might demand. For the lovebirds, though, it also includes a queen-size bed and walk-in shower. There’s no need to wait to get to the hotel to start celebrating each other.

Consider a Distinctive Destination

Most people think of tropical locales when contemplating honeymoon destinations, and with good reasons. Who doesn’t like sun, sand, and relaxation? As a result, places like Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico, and the like consistently rank among the top selected locales. If you’re looking to plan a truly memorable honeymoon, though, opting for a less obvious destination might be a solid choice.

Nihiwatu in Indonesia, for example, is just a short flight away from the hustle and bustle of bali, but the health-focused treehouse hotel is one of a kind, nestled in lush tropics and featuring a full-service spa, horseback riding, and yoga. Giraffe Manor in Kenya might sound like a made-up vacation spot, but the stately 1930’s manor is set on 12 acres of private land and surrounded by 140 acres of indigenous forest, with breathtaking gardens and – yes – a herd of resident giraffes who take to sticking their long necks in the windows of the exclusive boutique hotel. The Norweigan Fjords, with breathtaking vistas in some of the most pristine stretches of nature in Europe, might be one of the most underrated options on the map.

Don’t be afraid to dig a little deeper than the glossy, pre-packaged honeymoon pamphlets that pepper the wedding planning process. You might be surprised by what you find. You can always visit the classics to celebrate an anniversary.

Invest in Experiences

After the hullabaloo of planning a wedding, a lot of newlyweds look forward to the idea of having nothing to do and no one to answer to on their honeymoon. By that point, you’ve more than earned a little relaxation. Still, your honeymoon is a great opportunity to bond, and investing in unique experiences is a fantastic way to do that.

You’ll definitely want to leave plenty of room for downtime, but scheduling a few structured activities for you to enjoy together is something you won’t regret. Maybe it’s something as small as a couple’s spa day, replete with massages and facials. Getting out of the hotel or off the grounds of the resort with tours can give you the opportunity to explore a world that’s new to you, getting a taste of local culture and presenting a chance to collect some meaningful souvenirs. If you’re feeling adventurous, booking specific activities that neither of you have experienced before, like ziplining or skydiving, can create timeless memories.

But while you’re making these picture-perfect memories, put the phone down. These are things that are meant to be experienced first, documented second. Feel free to buy that overpriced tourist photo, but don’t let yourself miss out on really being present for some of these moments because you’re fixated on getting the right angle for a shot or filter for a post. Crisp memories will mean a lot more to you in the long run than the likes you accumulate on Instagram.
